James Arnold Jr. was appointed as the 8th Chief of Police for the Bradley Beach Police Department on March 1, 2024.

Chief Arnold began his career with the Bradley Beach Police Department in 2000 as a special law enforcement officer and a dispatcher. In 2002, he was sworn in as regular Police Officer for the Bradley Beach Police Department. He served as a Patrolman and a Detective until he was promoted to Sergeant in 2016. In 2019, he was promoted to Lieutenant, serving as the Patrol Commander for the Department. In 2023, he was promoted to Captain, serving as the Administrative Commander for the Department. During his career, the Chief proudly served 15 years as a member of the Monmouth County Emergency Response Team (M.O.C.E.R.T) before retiring from the team as a team leader. He also served 5 years as a lead instructor for the Southern Monmouth County Active Shooter Partnership. Within the Department, the Chief has served as a traffic officer, a firearms instructor, an internal affairs officer and a field training officer.

As Chief of Police, he is responsible for a department comprised of nearly 40 employees. The Department consists of Police Officers, Dispatchers, and special law enforcement officers. The Department also has 3 K9s, each assigned to a regular Police Officer.

Prior to becoming a Police Officer, the Chief received a Bachelor of Science Degree with high honors from Rutger’s University.

Chief Arnold is married with one child.
